Super Rich Mixture Part 2 (Video Inside!)
If I can get the car off this overly rich condition I can (FINALLY) take her out on her maiden voyage! :D
I took a video of the injectors firing (Sorry for the quality...20 sec. video mode on a digital camera.) I want some opinions on the spray pattern. Is it too concentrated? Open too long? Not long enough? I dont have anything to compare the spray to so I thought you guys should take a look. Also, the #2 injector blew right off the rail both times I laid the fuel rail out...(the first time I started cranking I had forgot to hook the leads back up to the injectors lol no wonder they werent firing! ) But as you can see in the video, even while firing fuel out of all 4, the injector still ends up off the rail. Too much pressure or just a loose fit? I didnt get so much as a spurt when I took the cap off the end of the rail earlier today...this is after a little cranking so I'm tending to dismiss too much pressure in the rail. (When tested last month, fuel pressure was well within spec.) Need lots of feedback on that spray, guys.. Much appreciated, - Matt Video Link: http://youtube.com/watch?v=_VJTBcyO1eo |
Don't you have clips for the injectors to hold them on the rail.
Otherwise the spray looks fine. Are these stock injectors? |
After taking the injectors off so many times I forgot abt the clips..
Injectors are stock '83 injectors. |
Looks like you got the Rennbay Caps... COOOOL!;)
The spray pattern looks... perfect. Those clips can get annoying lol:D Can't wait until you get it on the road. SmileWavy |
..so the spray is good. Im betting its gonna be the reference sensors...%99 sure their on the way out and giving me an inconsistent/non-existent spark.
Gremlin: ya man I got the hats...lucky for me theres a fuel-injection shop/store real close to my house LOL got all 4 hats for abt $5.. |
I agree, spray looks good and cone shaped
|
Ok so I got the reference sensors today, all hooked up and ready to rock. (Many, many many thanks to you Todd!!)
After two cranks from the starter she fired right up on all cylinders( :) )...but stalled right out after 2 seconds. ( :( ) The battery was a little low to begin with, so furthur cranking just drained the thing completely. While its on charge, I have a chance to check to things out.. From the snooping I've around here, I'm almost wondering if that DME relay has something to do with it. Seems just abt every thread that begins with "My 944 starts but dies after a few seconds" always ends with a new DME relay. Funny thing is, I have two new ones. I'll try swapping them this afternoon. The plot thickens yet again, my friends.... |
Switching the relays did nothing.
The engine cuts out a second to 2 seconds after I stop cranking...which leads me to believe that the computer isnt being told to keep the fuel coming.. |
could this be a switch problem? have you tried running a jumper to the fuel pump to keep it running? have you checked the fuel pressure and fuel flow at the rail?
|
Havent checked the fuel pressure with a guage yet..
Takin the nut off the end of the fuel rail yeilds nothing...not even a real squirt lol so the pressure definately isnt too high! Question: if a fuel pressure regulator fails, is it possible for it to fail inverse? Ie. not hold any pressure in the rail as opposed to holding too much? |
i doubt it. someone else can chime in.
sounds like you have a fuel flow problem for sure. |
I checked the fuel pressure with a guage as per Clarks-Garage. (Not running, relay jumpered,) and consistantly got 60psi.
..Clark calls for 32psi tops. But I still didnt get so much as a spurt while taking the end cap off the fuel rail....weird. |
I got a FPR in today. With the car off, relay jumpered, the pressure reads abt 35+/- 3
The car dies instantly after cranking. As long as keep cranking, the car will keep runnning. I've scowered this forum for every thread related to this problem, and it all seems to boil down to the computer not continuing to run the fuel pump. The speed sensor is in good working order, (right Todd??) and gapped as correctly as I could gap it. So can someone PLEASE explain to me why it wont stay running? (Yes, thats desperation...) The starter is turning, the engine catches, running under its own power, I stop cranking as the tach flies up 1000rpm thinking everything is good, then immediately the tach needle drops like a stone and everything is quiet again. Been out here for hours/days/months trying to solve this. I hope you guys, with your infinite wisdom/experience/magical healing properties can help! |
