Fan Temp Range
I am a recent owner of a 85.5 944. I have notice my radiator fans do not come on until the temp gauge is almost to the red. Once on, they run until the temp gauge is below the first bar. Does this seem normal to you folks? My Guru thinks I may need to replace the fan switch/sensor in the radiator. What do you guys think?

My '87 sits on the first bar, moves up to about 1/3 the way to the second bar, then back down again.
I see you're new to the site. www.clarks-garage.com is a great place to find a lot of info about repairing your car. This is a link right to the section you'll want to look at (http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/cool-01.htm). You should go to the main page, it has a navigation bar that you will not see with this link on the left side. Click on "Garage Shop Manual" and the repairs are listed in alphabetical order. This is a great site for help and info. Good luck with the trouble shooting and repair! |
I am having the same problem i believe its the fan switch on the radiator, but i have not tested anything yet.

When the cfans come on
In my '83 the fans don't come on until 3/4 (on 4 tick gauge)and cut back off once it is down below 1/2. My mechanic said this is perfectly normal for these cars. In fact, I just had my radiator fans replaced, and that is where they still come on and off (although they cool it down a little faster). If you are concerend and want them to come on, I beleive you can turn on the AC and they will be on the entire time the AC is on-
