small oil leak

so, i have a small oil leak. i cannot find it. it started when i redid the cylinder head a couple of months ago. it doesn't leak enough to leave a spot on the ground, but leaks enough that i smell it burning for about 30 seconds after the car is first started.

i checked the gasket at the end of the cam tower and i am now wondering if i lost some sort of seal at the dipstick when i pulled it out with the intake manifold.

any ideas?

Do you know where it is burning from? The exhaust manifold?

update: it is the cam tower gasket at the rear.... DOH!!!

i reached under there tonight, just after posting this thread and getting off of work. definite leak there, so i'll be replacing the gasket thursday morning.

update to the update:

two of the three bolts holding that cover on were completely loose. i could see threads on the bottom one. i gently tightened them and we will see what happens. if it is still leaking, i have a new gasket in my tool box.

it is super tight back there. a large bundle of wiring enters the firewall right where that bottom bolt lives.

Because it's a PITA and everyone seems to have a problem with it at some point. Lazy people (PO) never seem to get that bottom screw tight, if they bother to put it back on at all. And then there are the ones that do not use the lock washers.

well, i had the damn cam tower completely off, didn't notice the bolts were loose. i feel kinda silly. hopefully tightening those bolts does the trick. otherwise, i am thinking it may be easier to pull the whole cam tower, rather than fart around in that tight space and not know if i've damaged the new gasket trying to get it on. i'll be needing to tension the belts in 500 miles anyway...

Might as well. I am waiting for my flywheel lock to get here to do mine. I am going to replace the cam cover gasket too. Then there should be no more leaks from this area.

i think it worked. i just checked and there is no oil on the header. i'll know for sure tomorrow.
