grrr... I hate my car

finally got it back today... fired it up to go to dinner, horrible belt squealing noises. A/C compressor clutch is not turning. Compressor seems to turn OK. This sucks. I'm about *THIS* close to just pushing it off a cliff, but then I wouldn't have a car, and I don't have any $$$ to buy anything else.

Hate car. Hate it.

Yea we all have those days. I remember when I kept breaking Power steering tensioners, I went threw like 3 in 3 weeks, On the 3rd one I freaked out and starting yelling at the car. But then I later learned I had the balance shaft timing off

Yeah my AC isn't working either. That's going to be a chore to try and fix. Probably expensive, too.

Ouchies.

Sorry to hear of the problems. It makes it real easy to hate when it is a car you depend on.

you don't want this car. It literally needs so much work (and it doesn't look or drive that badly, but still) that I'm not entirely certain if it's sane to keep going. As of right now, known issues are the A/C, the torn ball joint boot, and blown front struts, as well as the probability of needing a new clutch (and likely torque tube bearings) and possibly a trans rebuild in the vague future. That doesn't sound like a lot but all that adds up to more than a stock NA is worth.

Of course the flip side is that I live in northern VA where anything in any better shape costs so much... and the car is solid, runs well, and I have two new sets of tires for it (snows and summers) and all accessories work.

I'm just sick of cars bleeding me dry, I need to get a better job so I don't worry about $$ so much. The sad thing is if I told you all how much money I made you'd tell me to shut up and quit whining, but the cost of living here is astronomical.

Of course, i've been picking away at all the stupid *little* problems with the car to try to keep it in top shape, and this is how it repays my efforts

Nate,

Leasing a new car is a real good deal! I got my '06 Eddie Bauer Explorer for $3K down and $290 a month! The Jag is a "release," $2500 down and $300 a month. It was 3 years old when I got it. The beauty of a lease is a brand new car or truck for a cheap payment. It is also ALWAYS covered under warrenty. So if something breaks or it gets wrecked you just give it back. But then you have the nay sayers tell you that you never own anything. Well look at the 944, you own that but it costs more than a lease payment on a new car to keep it in good running order.

No matter how you look at it you will always be paying for something. Just an idea with the leases. Keep the 944, when it breaks and cash is a little tight just park it in the garage for a while. Trust me, it will take ALL the stress away! You do have to shop around for a good lease price though. And you have to be somewhat flexiable on the vehicle. They do exist!

BTW, it doesn't matter how much you make, it never seems to be enough.

yup cars suck. I have my daily driver on jack stands, front bumper removed, rear bumber and side skirts partly removed fixing rust. While waiting for paint to dry I decided to install the snorkle into my air box on the 944S. Of course I broke the distributor cap trying as I had to remove it to install the snorkle. No one has the cap so I have to wait until tomorrow.

This is now the second time this year I have had 2 cars down for repairs. Luckily there's a third car for parts runs

Ok, so my current living arrangements seem to be coming in handy... there's a little repair shop at the end of the street run by a Korean guy... seems to be pretty decent. He looked at the car today and said that I had busted mounting bolts and a busted adjuster strut for the A/C compressor and he should have it repaired by the time I get home from work. This is the THIRD time this has happened during the ownership of the car. Has anyone else ever had this problem? I'm thinking I should probably go ahead and have the compressor replaced as there's no other logical explanation for why this is happening, but everyone that's worked on it swears that everything is OK and I shoudln't have any more problems. What gives? this is kind of frustrating...

Check the earlier post from fast924S. Looks like he had the same problem but with the PS pump.

Take one thing at a time. Have the mounting bracket checked for out of round wear. The bracket used is cheap from a parter. If there worn, new bolts will still be lobsided and break. Tentioner will snap and back to quare one. A/C working may be a different problem. Shocks can be done anytime but the ride will suck.

A/C works fine although probably needs a top up, but it does vibrate a little when running.

I have had my 944 for about 1 year now. I bought it for $3800, and have spend around $1500 so far. That money went to keeping the car running, not upgrades. My conclusion is, these cars may be cheap to buy, but not cheap to keep running. I don't mind that much though, they are great cars when they run.

I don't know how expensive it is in VA, but here in San Diego, CA., it is extremely expensive to live, and survive. I am not positive, but I think NY is probably the only place that is more expensive.

The more money you make, the more you need.
The less money you make, the more you need.
Sucks, doesn't it.

New York City is comparable to San Diego, Green Water. NYC also smells like New Jersey.

I'm in college and having to pay for the 951 is rough. I've only had it for a few months and I've had to sink some money into it. I had to have a starter put in (~450) and now my a/c isn't working. The exhaust manifold has a crack in it and my brakes are making horrendous squealing noises.

That's why I drive my Subaru Outback most days. Boring, automatic, a/c equipped stodgy station wagon Subaru-but it's CHEAP to fix and runs on regular.

Who needs A/C? (jk) I was going to fix my A/C until I ran the thing off the road and smashed up the condenser. Ahh, one less thing to have to fix.

In my case I need the A/C because the failure mode takes out the alternator belt

The guy again claimed that he'd fixed the problem permanently - he used longer mounting bolts with nuts to lock them in place. Let's hope he's right, I started pricing some compressors, holy geez those are expensive.

throw an AC delete kit in there if the belts and tensionors are breaking. Youll have al the AC you need when the roof is off and the windows down, haha. I took my compressor out lastv year and put in the delete kit because i replaced my alternator 4 times in a year. Problem was 1 of the 2 bolts on top of the compressor holding in the the tubes broke, and i didnt know it. Took the compressor out, dont know if it works, installed the delete kit. Is there a way to check and see if the compressor works?? If you neeed a compressor, if it works, ill sell it to you for cheap.
