Feeler Post.. Timing/balance shaft tension party in Wisconsin.

This is a feeler post to get an idea of how many people would be interested in attending a work party at my house. Any Pelicans are invited to attend.

The plan;
The focus of the party would be to retension the cam timing and balance shaft belts and or install new belts. If you are wanting to install "new" belts I urge you to have another shop lined up to do the 1500 mile retension seeing as my schedule will not allow time to do retensions in that short of time. Also, if you need a water pump or front engine reseal we wouldn't be able to help you out there. This would just be a routine maintenance belt tension party.

The rough agenda would be work on our cars until about 4:00 pm at which time we can either.
1) have a potluck cook out at my place or
2) go out to eat at Quaker Steak and Lube. They are a burger/ chicken joint with darn good Buffalo wings (get the Blazin if your are a big man!).

There are also some nice twisty roads near my house although the DOT straightened out my favorite road which ran along the river due to too many accidents .

Requirements of attendies;
1) be prepared and willing to get your hands dirty by working on your car and helping others as well. This is a good way to learn the ins and outs of the belt maintanence.
2) If we do the pot luck please bring a dish and beverage of your choice. If we do the Quaker Steak and Lube then it is only beverage of your choice.
3) good attitude and willingness to have fun

This will be an outside event due to my 948 project taking up the garage. the date would be subject to the weather.

The gathering would be free with the exception of dinner but donations to the garage would be more than appreciated.

If you want new belts make sure to bring you own. All the belts I have at home are used and you don't want those

I have all the needed tools but may need somebody to bring an extra set of jack stands and a jack depending on how many people plan on attending.

The date would be Saturday May 19th.

If it were closer, I would definitely attend to help out!
If you need to borrow a 9201 for instruction or tensioning, let me know, and I'll send mine out to you for the event.

Look forward to seeing you Chi.

Many944,
thanks for the offer of lending out your P9201. I have my own P9201 and plan on using it for the event but if we get more than 6 cars there may be a need for a second one so we can have 2 cars under the knife at one time. I will keep you posted and thanks again for the offer.

BTW,
Even thought the V-8 swapped 944's don't need belt tensionings I am trying to get a couple of guys from the Porschehybrids board to come on out.

So far we have one guy.

Considering that I am doing a top-end rebuild, belts, water pump, and front-end seals, I won't be making it up.

That's too bad you won't be able to make it legion. If you get it done before the party make sure to keep us in mind.

1) Saturday may 19th. Start time around 10:00am

2) until the break of dawn. (until the last car is done or at sundown which ever is first. make sure to leave time for dinner and a drive)

3) at my crib (my house)

As a special treat Turbobob will be coming even though he has no cam belt to tension any longer. This may be a chance to see one of the only Buick Grand National turbo V-6 powered 931's on the face of the earth. Last I checked, IIRC, he has layed down over 550 ft/lbs or torque at the wheels.

Hey speedy! Long time to talk to... Figures it would be May 19th... The GTO guys have a BBQ scheduled for that day out in Crystal Lake, IL. I know I can't make both. I want to see that 931 though. Also would like to check out a hybrid.

oh yeah, and it would be good to see you again too.....

Anyway, decisions, decisions....

Remember the failed party in the fall a couple of years ago where myself and the other guy were the only ones to show up? Looks like yo have more interest in this one.

Hey Ryan. Long time no post hey? It would be cool if you could make it but I understand if you want to hang out with the GTO guys. Us 944 geeks are just not as cool

You still have your 944? I assume you still have the GTO.

For guys who are coming and replacing belts you should put your order in for the belts so you have them for sure before the event.

Go ahead and replace your pump, install new belts and give them the initial tensioning. You can then drive the 1000+ miles to my house for the 1500 mile retension.

Wish this was closer, this would be a blast! I'll be due for the 1500 tension in a month or so, I had my belts done as I didn't have the time and couldn't wait.

I usually check in on the 'other' board. For some reason I've never made it a point of stopping by this place. I talk to chitown944 online frequently and he gave me the heads up.

Still have the 944 and the goat. The 2 cars spent the winter next to each other snuggled away in their own blankets. Still have the beastly Maxima too.

The 944 doing alright, its an old car so maintenance is an ongoing event. I've got a Power steering hose leaking, and a little tiny bit of oil seeping from the cam tower, so more fun isn't far off. But the car isn't going anywhere, it still brings a smile to my face when I drive it. And besides, I've got too much money sunk into it at this point.

Anyway, I've got almost 3 weeks to decide which shindig I'll hit up. There will be single women at the GTO event, I'm not sure you guys can compete....

I don't think we could compete. My wife would not appreciate me posting the party on www.singleporschewomen.com looking for ladies to come over and hang out.

When you do the cam tower gasket it would be a good time for new belts. Check out a performance cam as well. Next time my gasket goes out the 944 is getting cammed.

Anybody else interested in coming out?

Speedy
