I need help in houston TX
 

can someone point me in the direction of a shop that wont rape my pockets to get a water pump in my 1990 944 s2? or if anyone knows someone who can do it as side work that would be great too. i paid to have the timing done and the shop did not do the water pump and now it is leaking. all i need is the pump installed. i miss my car it has been over two months since i have driven her.

What's the pay rate? :) I just did my belts, pumps in there... TX is a little ways away from me though. If you can turn a wrench then working on this car is not as bad as it sounds.

dont i need a special tool for the timing though? i started to do the water pump on my mr2 and it is dfficult. the s2 looks easier

They say you need a belt tensioner. I have read in many places on here of people that do not use it but check the tension with a "90 degree twist" method. I just put mine back together without the tensioner. I just had my belts done at the dealer and I got a good feel of the tension on the belt before I tool it off. I tensioned it back by feel.

I guess we'll see how well it works for me. I also did the cam gasket yesterday, no more leaks! The gasket was shot and took some good cleaning to get all the old gasket off the head.

Yesterday was the first time I did the belts. I never measure the tension or deflection on my "fan belts" on cars, it's just a feel you get over the years I guess.

The biggest thing for me with the cam was keep TDC on the cam sprocket after you put the belt on the cam pully and tension it. It would pull the cam pully back about a tooth and a ahalf off TDC when I sucked up the slack in the pully. So before installing the belt on the cam pully I advanced the cam pully to be a tooth ahead of TDC. That worked well for me. Put me right on the mark when I tensioned the belt.

thanks i think i will give it a try maybe i will just pay the one hour of labor to get it get the belt adjusted if i have any doubts.

That is a safe thing to do too.

the s2 is a liitle different from what I understand.

Make sure you do your research before pulling it apart. I believe it has a hydralic tensioner.

Look on clarks to see how yours is done.

They aren't that hard to work on as stated above but they have some differences throught the years and models.

I do too, but it's not that bad. Read Clark's many times, become fimilar with everything and go from there. Just take your time! :)
