more strut thoughts
Hi all,
from all reports it sounds like 85.5-86 struts will NOT fit on an 87-88 car without some modding... so here's another idea... what if I had a machinist friend grind off the crimped on caps and cut threads in the tops of the tubes for the threaded caps? d'ya think that would work? I just got some cheap blown struts off fleaBay; the guy said they were off an '86 but they are 87-88 style. So I have learned nothing from that exercise. So I wasted some $$, but only $20 or so, if nothing else I can experiment with them and/or use them as cores for the Koni conversions if none of my other ideas pan out. I know I'm being really stubborn, but I want Bilsteins on my car and it seems that doing something custom is the only way to make it happen. Anyone have any 85.5-86 struts, in any condition? Actually if you have some that are bent from a wreck or otherwise unusable that would be great, so long as the caps are still there. I'll pay shipping plus a reasonable amount for your time. nate

I bought some inserts for my 87, and after pulling one out of the car disassembeling it, I found mine are crimped in as well. I had a few choice words for the designer.
I might have mine avabile for free soon, I just need a few stars to align for my current deal to pass.

Thanks for the sort-of offer, Rick, but I'm looking for a pair off an 85.5-86 car. I already have an extra pair of 87-88 struts.
