DME Failure
Hi All,
Just determined that my DME is failing. I noticed in the BMW Tech Articles, there is a rebuild for the Bosche DME. (http://www.pelicanparts.com/BMW/techarticles/E36-DME-Repair/E36-DME-Repair.htm Pelican Technical Article: BMW DME Motronic ECU Swap / Repair) Has anyone used it to try to fix a DME? |
yeah, do a search. people have had success resoldering the connections, etc. if that fails, get one off of evilBay. what car do you have?

Hi Nynor,
I have a 1988 944. Plain jane, no S, no turbo. Interesting though, its more like an 87 - supposed to have ABS - it doesn't, supposed to have airbags - doesen't. |
i think they were options. mine doesn't have ABS, but does have airbags (which i promptly disabled).

turbo S is not 952 ( i think that's a RHD 951), but yes the only 944/951 series to have ABS standard is the 951S

I believe all Late DME - 1985.5 to 1989 Porsche 944 use the BOSCH Model ML3.1 Motronic software but according to FRFILK.COM different model years use specific DMEs so I don't know how well swapping with a BMW will work out.
Your '88 uses DME 0 261 200 086 For comparison: '86 uses DME 0 261 200 076 '89 uses DME 0 261 200 089 for the 2.7 litre engine The only thing you could do is try swapping different DMEs to see if they work but before you do that you may want to try resoldering the connections on the DME out of your own car to see if that will solve your problem. Here is a web tutorial that will get you started. http://www.rennspeedracing.com/DME_tutorial.html |
