another belt tensioning question
Ok, so I re-tensioned my belts after 1500-2000 miles. I noticed that the belt seemed to 'ride' toward the inner edge of the cam pulley instead of in the center. Is there any reason to be concerned about this? I did actually loosen the belt a little on the re-tension. I used Bruces tool (920X) both times. A few times each actually:) .
Thanks, Dave |
A too tight belt will track to the side. The tension pulley flange has to be on the engine side. The balance belt tension pulley flange goes on the outside. I left the top cover off one time and checked the timing belt when the engine was hot. Tight as a drum but was marginally loose when the engine was cold. The timing belt does not have to be as tight cold as some think.
