another manual rack conversion
This is going on an 87. But there's one answer I can't find. I would like to keep my late off-set wheels (I just picked up 2 sets). So, can I just install the manual rack and shaft, and use the old tierods and control arm?

From what I have read that is correct but I think you also need an early steering shaft because it's longer than the later/power steering ones. Let me know how it goes because I'm considering it as well.

You will need new tie rods. The tie rods for the power steering rack will not fit a manual rack. There are tie rods available for a manual rack and late offset cars, but they are expensive. You can keep your control arms.

Yes the Intermediate shaft needs replacing. In looking at PET there is a listing for a manual rack under 87 944. It has the part numbers:
944.347.033.03 for the complete tierod 171.419.831C Boot 171.419.832C Boot This should let you keep the alum control arms and late off-set wheels. Hopefully someone can verify. |
Let me know where you find late manual tie rods if you do.

Paragon sells the late manual tie rods for $145 each.
