Can you get your ear under there to try to pinpoint the noise??? Or does it only happen when you are driving it?

I think I might have the same problem. Is it from the passenger side near the tunnel? I keep hearing what sounds like a relay clicking on and off. No idea what it is

Me too. Very intermittant. Might not happen for months...then it happens all the time...and then it stops for months...

I wonder if it is related to the DME.

I have the same issue, sure sounds like it is coming from the DME but everyone keeps telling me that there's no relays in that area (alarm is bypassed) I wish I knew what it was so I could stop worrying about it.

FINALLY! I have an 87 that does NOT have a problem that everyone else has! Do you guys have stock radios in your cars? I have after market. I don't know if my alarm is bypassed or not. I never looked and I never used it. So far no problems. I think the alarm for these MYs are on the driver side, aren't they? If it's not the alarm on the driver side then I don't know what it is. I never looked into because it never casued me a problem yet.

What about your soleniod valves for your heater vents? Might be a little out there, but maybe they are acting up and making some kind of noise. I am not sure if they could or would click ever. Could it be one of the flaps? Just taking some crazy guesses here for you guys.

Wicked!

Some one else has heard the noise on the passengers side too.... i wasnt posting about that ..but i thought i was nuts for a while..because the ticking/clicking sound im posting about is from the drivers side for sure.. ..but there was one from the passengers side that plagued my ear at random times... i havent heard it for months now... i havent the slightest clue what it is..but it sounds like its from the glove box or near the passengers feet area....

possibly the alarm? i dont know if my car had an alarm... i was never told about it by the PO ... although he never told me about the GLUED on tape casette holder lid in the centre console... and all the other things that fell apart in the first week i had the car... haha.. fixed now tho...

Well, there ARE vacuum lines and vacuum operated dampers under the dash. Perhaps a loose or leaking vacuum hose? Or a damper actuator with a ruptured diaphragm? Or a disconnected linkage flopping about? Have you ever checked for mice? They love those french fries you always find under the seats. Mice seem to like wire insulation too. Especially silicone covered spark plug wires.

Crazy guesses John? I've seen some crazy s#it before.

There's not a whole lot under there to choose from. That heating/vent system has a lot of parts on it and many that move. A fan blade "clicking" from the blower at a low speed? I would be looking towards that area. Does it only happen while you are driving? High or low RPMs? Day or night? Heat or no heat? What's on in the car while this is happening and where are your heater controls set at?

My AC does not work either and I do not have any clicking.

Still guessing... but not getting any answers

For me, it is completely random. I rarely have the HVAC on, so it isn't correlated to that at all. If it happens when I'm accelerating, I don't hear it. I just hear random clicks (like a relay) of varying frequency when I'm cruising along.

Ya... i have the same issue like Legion... its not something tapping against something else.. its actually the sound of ... umm... lets say.. the sound of a buzzer..but the buzz part is not happening so you hear a click in place of a buzz.. make sense?

the heater or fans or ac are Never on.. its friggin hot here... so the car has no buttons pressed in. just engine and radio . Hrmm

I do know that a bunch of electrical does not work on my car.. such as

the central lock system.
the rear wiper.
the rear hatch release(kinda fixed that one..but the shocks are dead so it doesnt pop up).
the window sprayer thing.

I dont have cruise control nor abs.
i found a retractable antenna ziptied to wires under the dash yesterday, that was weird. since the car has the in glass antenna in the windshield.

but the major things all work . not sure if it may be related?

It is the DME/ECU that you hear. Do not be concerned or annoyed. There is no cure.

How or why is the DME making that noise? Is it on it's way out? A cold solder joint issue? Which part of it is making the noise?

A switch/chip built in. It is "talking" to the Altitude sensor iirc. You will hear it most the time but at times you wont at all. It too makes silly little noises as does your PC. Move on to another issue!

Question Clicking under dash

Read these responses and thanks to all.

I too have the clicking under the dash (RHDrive), sounds like a relay or something. Also cant get my horn to work (ouch!) could this be related to a faulty relay? If so where is this relay located for me to replace? Cheers.

Try the horn relay and or fuse. What year is your car?

Re read the above..

Horn is either the fuse, or the contact points in the steering column, or the horn wiring harness and last but not least the horns itself.

Welcome to the PBBS by the way!
