Power Steering

Does anyone know the size and pitch of the fittings on the power racks? I'm wanting to put some new fittings on but not pay a load of money.

Somehow people on here cross reference VW for the same parts. I have no idea how they do it. I would guess this part to be like the o-rings you just got for your fuel injectors. Try calling the parts store and tell them what you need. They should be able to cross reference a generic screw/bolt for you I'm sure. You are talking about the banjo screws/bolts right?

yeah, talking bout the banjo bolt, if i knew the diameter and pitch of the thread I'd be able to find a fitting easy...I may just have to pull them and take them with me. I am not fond of the banjo fitting so I'll probobly just do a standard flared fitting.

Because mine leak so bad! Those darn crush washers! I read some where that some were recalled due to the banjo fitting leaking and were replaced with your typical flare type fitting. The legitimacy to that hear say is unknown, but it feeds my disdain for the banjo fitting.

I was going to mention just getting new copper crush washers. Prob cheaper. How often do you take these hoses off?

well....I need to replace the hoses etc and I have plans to just turn it into a manual rack. I will get some criticism for it more than likely, but that's ok. I plan to take the return outlet and plug it back into the PS input, that way when I turn the rack it will cycle the fluid and not damage the internals (as much). I also plan to put a 4way fitting in the middle of the line with caps on the two ends left open and orient it such that a fitting points straight up (for filling w/ fluid) one points straight down (for draining and servicing) and then two will be parallel with the ground and the fluid will pass through them. This way I can fill, bleed or drain the system easily and eliminate, atleast for now, some problems, such as leaky hoses and a pump in need of a rebuild.

You do know that there will be a million posts from the next owner of your car, don't you?!?! You should have your own repair manual for when you sell the car! We'll all be old timers by then and will know how to help the poor guy get parts. Have fun while you can, that's what it's all about!

LOL I can't deny that...but usually people don't buy my cars when I am done with them, they usually die a solid death in my ownership around 250k miles and I just quite fixing them because it's cheaper to buy a new one! However, I HOPE to put the power steering system back on with completely new hoses etc in the future once I get everything else squared away...paint, interior, turbo, general mechanical maintenance etc. But at this point I'd have a few hundred in fixing my PS system and I don't see it being that important when I have more pressing issues that need my attention.
