VERY rare indeed!

I thought we exhausted all of the vacuum leak possibilities - that's why I moved on to ignition. I hope that fixes it. I thought that sucker was pressed in.

We still need to revisit the coil setup later to be sure we don't have any potential electrical problems brewing down the road.

The West Systems epoxy should work just fine. Lots of good detailed info on their web site.

I never knew of this fitting under the manifold but after spraying the starting fluid there was something definitely going on in there.

The epoxy has been setting up for 3 hours but need 3-5 more to go to be fully set up. It is soooo hard to just sit and wait for the epoxy to cure before I reassemble everything. I want to drive now!!!

I anticipate this vacuum line being a PIA to reattach since there is so little room to work under the manifold.

If I play my cards right the car will be up and running tonight.

...you could always wash and wax it while you wait for the epoxy to set...

speedracing944 07-21-2007 12:43 PM

that was what I was working on but with having all the internals of the engine exposed I was being very carefull with the water.

I was trying out the Mothers Clay bar with a coat of Zymol and the clay bar doesn't seem to do much.

I had that happen to me at the track. The metal pipe blew out and the car barely ran. The only thing was, I didn't have any backfiring problems. The car would not idle whatsoever and sputtered when I got on the throttle no matter what rpm. I think you definitely found the problem.

Well there you go.... now have some fun with the sucker :)

Has been running since 7:00pm. Off to get icecream BRB

That's the exact vacuum leak I had a couple of days ago. It's a major PIA to get to with the manifold on. My hose was old but OK when I put it back together, in the process of putting the manifold on though is when it cracked. Well, I'm glad you got it running again, go for one of those drives or three!

Ok here is what I did to fix it and I recommend the repair to others with the same problem.

In addition to cleaning out the bore of all the old epoxy and installing the hard pipe back in with new epoxy what I did was to drill and tap through the aluminum manifold and the hard pipe along the side. I used a 21 drill bit and a 10-32 bolt which when tightened down went through the manifold and protruded through the hard pipe. This arangment holds the hard pipe in come hell or high water.

The car started right up and hummed along nicely. My wife, kids and I hit "The Strip" in Janesville and got some icecream and then did a couple of laps along the strip.

Time to go to bed and have sweet dreams. :) :)
