Leaky injector

I was admiring my recent turbo mount today when I noticed a hissing...it sounded like an injector so I started wiggling them to see which one it might be, and my #2 injector is leaky, so I'm laid up for a while while waiting for my o-rings. Any tips for when I get the parts for Lindsey Racing?

Make sure to lubricate the seals with ATF.

Make sure to do a test run in the garage and check the fuel rail/injectors with a dental mirror.

Make sure to have a fire extinguisher handy, preferably halon.

Be mindful of the rubber line leading to/from the fuel rail. They can crack, and they might not crack all the way through until you are under full acceleration:

I just got in from getting my car together which included installing the fuel rail.

1) dont flex the fuel hoses. Undo the fittings at the pressure regulator and dampener

2) have rags handy to catch any fuel

3) dont smoke

4) after you get the fuel rail off pop the old caps off the injectors. I used my slide hammer vise grip for this.

5) what I have found works best for me is to make sure the fuel injectors and the new caps, spacers and O-rings are clean and dry when you install them.

6) wipe out the bores in the intake manifold using Q-tips and solvent.

7) wipe a little oil in the bores in the intake manifold to make it easier to install the fuel injectors and rail.

8) you will have to press pretty hard to get the O-rings to insert into the bores

9) CARRY A FIRE EXTINGUISHER WITH YOU ON YOUR MAIDEN TRIP TO PUT OUT ANY POTENTIAL FIRES!!!!!

Brian,

You can get new o-rings and caps at any parts store. I just got new ones for mine. I think NAPA charged me about $20 for four sets. The ATF swells up the o-rings real nice. I advise using new o-rings each time you remove the fuel rail as the o-rings are larger from the ATF the second time you try to put them in. When they are larger they tend to fold, tear, or bind into a "wrinkle" when you stuff them back in.

ALSO, check that fuel line from the damper to the rail. Mine was bubbled and cracked underneath were you could not see it. You should really replace it if there is any adverse wear, bubbling, or cracking. I would like to actually see your boost project through completion!

Hey John, do you happen to have the part number for those o-rings and caps at NAPA? I haven't made an attempt yet, but a part number would help alot as here in podunk they don't think they have anything for a Porsche until I give them a part number. I may go get some if I need my car faster than Lindsey ships and just have a few extras on hand for when I start fooling with injectors later down the boost trail. Thanks.

I was talking to Sid about them on the phone and he said to ask for o-rings for a mid 90s Mustang. They are Bosch injectors and they all pretty much have the same size o-rings. So I took an injector with me and they were the same ones. Maybe A LOT cheaper too because they did not say Porsche. $20 for four sets of o-rings and caps for the injectors.

Sounds like a plan John, I may go get some tomorrow so I don't have to suffer withdraw symtoms from my car being down for a few days. I'd sure suffer some withdraw and depression if it burnt up LOL. Thanks for the lead on cheaper parts. Not to knock Lindsey Racing, they were the cheapest I could find and I respect them alot, but for the o-rings and cap for one it was 5.99, which isn't bad, but it was 9.49 or something for shipping. But like I say, they were the cheapest for part and shipping of any of the three suppliers I checked. Always good to know of a part you can get close to home!

Any parts store should have them. Take an injector with you to make sure it fits and that it's the correct one. They will ask for a year make and model to try to match it up. They need to get some kind of a part number to find what they are looking for. They didn't have the o-rings for a Porsche, but they did for the Mustang. Same exact things as far as I can see. And they work just fine.

At the local NAPA in my area they actually had the part for my 86 N/A. I'll post the part number later tonight. Right now I gotta get changing them as I have to work this week starting tomorrow.

Here are a few pics, one has the part number in it, the second shows the contents and the third is a picture of my refurbished injectors ready to roll. My car seemed to actually run smoother after fixing the injectors. No leaks the first time either, so that was good.
