any sheet metal workers in here? amatures ok

Anyone in here mess around with sheet metal?

I need someone to make me a solid nose panel to delete the headlights on my 83 track car. Ideally i would like to bolt it on in case i have to remove it at a later date. Also i may need to remove a fender at some point so i dont want to just weld something up.

PM me or post here if youd like this project... I dont have the tools to even mess aroud with it.
I can send you my exsisting panel as a template.. although a little banged up at least youd have the shape to work with.

Dave

I can try to make one on the English wheel, but the leading edge is pretty tricky with the curved lip required... Is there anyway you could use a Carbon Fiber nose panel instead? It may be a few more $$ but would definitely be easier to make. The other option, would be to straighten your current panel and weld in patches where the headlights would be. The seams could then be leaded and smoothed out... just some ideas.

I have a couple of motor swaps on my schedule for later this week, so I might not get a chance to start on trying to shape one til the middle of next week.

Getting another nose panel, welding in the headlight areas and grinding the seams is prob the the best and easiest solution. Carbon Fiber is nice too. Carbon fiber will be lighter, but you'll have to make a mold and all that good stuff. The carbon fiber will bee a lot more expensive too.

A friend just removed the headlights, and used the existing headlight covers.

A couple home-made brackets below to hold them in place. If you need to get rid of the seam, this will not work, of course. He just used a few pop rivets.

Just let me know, I may start trying to shape one for the heck of it, it may be something I can offer here at my shop in the future!

im sure you could sell them. There are no alternatives to Fiberglass ou there really. Something that would bolt right up would be a sure seller for track car folks.

Once you have the fiberglass one in place, would you be willing to let me borrow, or sell me your "banged up" one so I can try to get all the mount points correct?

Let me know,
-Nick

his is an 83 and the nose piece will be welded on. there aren't really any mount points on it, unless you were to bolt down or re-weld where the previous welds are.

It prob was bolted. The eral ones come spot welded from the factory and the PO prob had to remove it for some reason. They drilled out the weldes and then bolted it back on. It's not that big of a deal. You'll just have to go to the hardware store and get some nuts, bolts, and washers.
