1987 924S key

I took a key blank in with me and the guy cut the key with the same pattern on both sides. He looked at it after he cut the key and the original was different on both sides like an old VW. Is this normal? My 84 has the same pattern on both sides, the 87 doesn't.

FYI... I just got new keys from the Porsche dealer. They are HOT! I think I paid $30 for each one, but they are the OEM key and head. They have the light in the head and the nice Porsche crest on one side.

My '88 924S has the same pattern on both sides. Does the new key work? My guess would be that someone had a key made some time in the past that wasn't quite right but was close enough to work. Just a guess though.

No. The new key is trash. It is for a friends car. I volunteered my extra blank. Both sides of the key are very different like an old VW key. Odd.

Interesting. My next guess is that the switch itself has been changed out at some point. Our switches are made by VW anyway, so maybe an old type VW switch fits?

Once again, just a guess .
