Steering/Alignment Problems Solved!
A few weeks ago I posted the problems I was having with my steering - too much over-steer and unstable at high speeds.
I have new tires and I got the car aligned but that did not correct the problem. The car did not seem to center and always felt like it would turn into the next lane if I did not pay 100% attention and at high speeds, it was even worse. It was like driving in windy conditions all the time. The alignment guy convinced me everything was within spec and ok. Problem Solved! This weekend I did brakes. 4 new rotors (slotted), new pads, ss brake lines, new fluid, new rear eb shoes, etc... I also re-packed the front wheel bearings. Did I mention BEARINGS? Yes, the front driver side was loose and I could jiggle the front hub about an eighth of an inch. I removed the bearings, cleaned thoroughly, and re-packed with new grease and Vwa-La....all of my steering issues went away. The car tracks to center and high speed is now dead center....I knew there was something wrong! It took me all day and I could barely stand up straight the next day but it's perfect and the new rotors are perty. Vern |
Bravo - I always like it when things work out that way

Mine is doing the same thing. I thought it might be my control arm bushings but I'll check my bearings.

Two days now and I can't believe the difference. The wheel hub only moved about an eighth of an inch but thats just me tugging on it. I suspect that when the full weight of the car, at 70 mph, the movement must have been worse.
It was like driving in a cross wind all the time. Now that it's fixed, I'm destined to get a ticket as it feels much safer at a 100. |
