Anyone up for a CT/ New England get-together?
The sticky post about the Indiana timing belt party got me thinking that it's been awhile since us New Englanders had something of the sort. Actually, I think we were the ones that did the "original" timing belt party a few years ago, non?

Well, I don't really need my belts done, but I'm sure someone here does; and let's face it, we never really get together just for the repair, right? Good excuse to look at the cars, drink a couple beers, etc.

So, what do we think, gang? I think we're long overdue.

I need my belts adjusted.

CJFusco 07-13-2007 01:42 PM

Ok, well we have our first guinea pig :)

I wonder who (if anyone) in CT has a decent-sized garage/shop to meet at.

Hey, Im in But I will proly show up in my Toyota Tacoma, cuz the P-car isnt ready, but I would like to meet some of you crazy guys

CJ - I may be in Hartford around the second week in August for a family reunion. Flying in, so no 924S. I can turn wrenches and give advice for an afternoon for turbo sway bars though!

dmilzoff 07-15-2007 04:41 AM

I'm in Westchester. My S2 is track only, but I want to learn about the belt. I can drive my other P car (996TT) if the timing and location is right.

CJFusco 07-15-2007 07:43 AM

Hah, yeah, I SUPPOSE you can bring your Turbo 996 if you HAVE to ;) But I would probably demand a ride.

2nd week of August could be fine. Sundays are the best day for me...

I'd be down for this. I'm a little unsure of what a "tbelt party" is, though. Would we be changing each other's timing belts? Sounds pretty sweet because I think mine is about due!

I'm not too far from CT, either.

CJFusco 07-16-2007 02:23 PM

the original timing belt party came to be because there were about 5 of us in the CT area that all were due for a timing belt replacement or retension. Only one of us (mike944) had a the official Porsche tensioner tool, so we all got together and did our belts in one fell swoop.

If we manage to find a REAL shop to meet at, I DO need to replace the exhaust manifolds on my car... and I suppose I wouldn't mind throwing on that 3" cat-delete exhaust that I have in the garage...

Tishabet 07-16-2007 02:37 PM

I could be interested...

Aufgeladen944 07-16-2007 08:04 PM

Heh my exhaust manifold has a crack in it. I'm not buying a new one ($$$).

CJFusco 07-16-2007 10:03 PM

I bought a used one with no cracks for something like $70. Deals can be found if you look hard enough.

Aufgeladen944 07-16-2007 10:25 PM

Yeah I am looking but I have no clue how it comes out lol

CJFusco 07-16-2007 10:30 PM

I do most of my work myself, and gave up trying to get the manifolds off myself. Just not enough room to work in there. I will probably just end up bringing it to a shop.

will944 07-17-2007 05:56 AM

1st half of August would work best for me.....

Aufgeladen944 07-17-2007 07:54 AM

My usual mechanic said it's 10 hours labor to get the manifold off. That seems a little long...

CJFusco 07-17-2007 08:29 AM

HOLY GOD! Ten hours? Even if you remove the coolant pipe that runs next to the top of the manifolds, drain the entire coolant system, and remove the entire exhaust, I can't imagine what would possibly take 10 hours at a pro shop!

Aufgeladen944 07-17-2007 10:35 AM

They didn't really think so either, they were just going by what the book itself said. They hadn't looked at the car at that point.

Either way, that's on the to-do list. It's only getting worse as time goes on.
