Bad Vibration In Front End
 

I have a 1986 944 n/a and have a very bad vibration in the front end when ever I hit a a bump. Going down the road at any speed when i hit a bump, the steering wheel vibrates violently and gets worse at greater speeds. I have already changed the passenger strut and the passenger tie rod to the knuckle(which were both wore out badly). The driver side seems to be ok, neither wheel has any play to cause this and the front end is quiet going down the road. I now have no idea, I thought for sure that the tie rod with the knuckle would fix my problem.

It is so bad that I can not even drive the car!!!! HELP!:(

Ball joint maybe? Struts and everything else real tight? Did you get a wheel alignment done after the struts and tie rod end?

yea everything seams to be tight and I did get the front end aligned. thats the weird thing everything looKs and feels OK under the car until you drive it and then it feels like something is bad loose.

Check the ball joints. Did they align the car properly with weights in the car and a full tank of gas?

yea I made sure of that I filled the car up before hand and made sure they knew what they were doing. I will check the ball joints tomorrow when I can put it on a lift. Thanks

Check the boots for wear, dry rot, all that good junk, then check for play. If you are getting that kind of vibration you should be able to feel something with your hands while you have it in the air.

first off, STOP DRIVING! this is potentially VERY dangerous

it could be a steering rack issue, bearing issue, or a ball joint issue - regardless, if there is that kind of play, and especially if bumps generate it, it needs to be addressed immediately
