Chips...ECU..DME

Hi everyone

im looking into buying a performance chip for my 87 924s. ive read the posts about the Wilkes chip and have looked on Ebay at some.

ive read the advantages of the chip, but what are the dangers of putting one in?
i might have some bad lifters would that be a problem???
and where would u reccomend me getting a chip
And last thing, could be a real dumb question, whats the difference between, ECU and DME??

Thanks

Derrick

Might aught to fix your lifters regardless. They are a bit pricey though. As for the chip, in my opinion, you're wasting your time and money if you don't get one of Wilk's chips or one of Russel's chips. Russel (rberry951) is a board member that makes chips, I'm not sure if his for the 924s is out yet, but it should be soon. However, I don't have a chip, so I cannot speak from experience, only from what I've read and from talking to Russel and Wilks via email. Also, as far as I know, ECU and DME are practicly the same thing.

As noted, Wilk makes very good chips and so does rberry951, But I dont think he has anything for the NA's yet. Wilks Power Prom is very nice, I run one, makes the car feel faster. There really arent any REAL dangers to a chip as long as the person who made the chip knows what they are doing. You might loose some MPG but thats usually it. I think you will like the WIlk chip alot.

There is no difference between the term DME or ECU, they are both talking about the same thing. DME is porsches term for ECU.

I wouldnt waste your time with EBAY chips, Most are rip offs and do very littlt

i'm not sure if the 924S had the early DME - if it does, then you'll need to solder.

it's quite easy. I have basic skills I learned in college, and with a few dollars spent on the right tools, I turned out ok.

87 & 88 924S's are plug-n-play.

Derrick, please fix your sig. 924S, not 924s. Be proud.

i bet its the injectors. they are REALLY loud on these cars. you may have lifter noise on startup until pressure builds and the noise after is the injectors.

ignore it. get a louder stereo. put better sound proofing in the hood. basically, the injectors are noisy, period. they have a solenoid, or something, that opens for every firing of the cylinder.

Use a Porsche filter, and use 20-50 oil
