924 Turbo parts onto a 944 NA
I found a wrecked '82 924 Turbo in a wrecking yard, mostly intact. Mine is a '84 944 NA, are there any desirable upgrades I should pull off of it? Is the transaxle compatible?
I don't think it's an LSD trans, when I spin one hub, the other side goes the opposite way. I'm almost tempted to pull it anyway since mine's making noises, would only be $65. It has the sport seats, but they're trashed so I doubt of any value. It has Koni rears, but i don't need them. Engine looks moslty complete.

The 931/ 924 turbo, is a totally different engine then the 2.5L you have. I also dont thing the tranny will work with the 944 but I could be wrong.

I may be wrong, but I think the trans will bolt up to the 944 torque tube, but the input shaft diameter or spline count is different. I think the shaft can be changed, but I doubt it would be worth the trouble.

For the most part, a 944 is a upgrade to the regular 924 with the 2.0L. The 944 has 4 wheel disk, better suspension, better engine. But then there is the 924S That looks like the old 924 but has 944 running gear.
There is a ouple guys who have taken the old 2.0L 924 engine and turboed it, They got some good power too. check 924Board.org

I figured as much on compatibility, but thought I'd check anyway.
Well, if anyone in central California needs 924 parts it's in the Stockton pick-n-Pull

the 931 trans may be much stronger if my research is correct.
Take a look on renegade hybrids to verify that it is the trans being written about.

931 trans is identical to the early NA 944 5-speed.

LOL... OK, most 931 trannies are the same as the early 944... except the '80. Which you don't want, different torque tube, etc. But this would be compatible with your '84 (same shaft and spline, etc). As for LSD or not - put it in gear before spinning the driveshaft, think that makes a diff...
![]() Suspension and brakes are the same as your car, no difference, so possible spares if needed (except front swaybar mounting is different). I'd like to pass this info on to the 924board since there's usually a demand for 931 parts, they're rare enough! Oh, yeah, and the early 944 isn't really much of an upgrade on the 931... 100% same chassis, same peak power output, a little more low-end, but the 931 trades that for much easier power upgrades. ![]()

Pass it on to whoever's in need. I don't have time or energy to pull parts for resale, but if it's an easy grab I can try to help out if someones not from the area. Folks can PM me for directions or whatever.

Get it as a parts car. You'd be amazed at all the parts that will swap over - excepting the engine and engine management.
