Why is my interior so dusty?

I use my 944 as a daily driver, and I've noticed that after a really thorough cleaning of the interior, it only takes about a week for some significant dust to gather inside, notably on the dash, console around the shift boot, etc. Is there some sort of filter to replace? Do you guys have this problem as well?
Thanks!

There are, on my 968, a couple of filters on the blower motor, underneath the front hood, behind the firewall. When I found them they were clogged with crap. Lift the plastic cover just under the wiper arms and you will see them right there.

I do drive with the windows down in the summer, but I have the same issue in the winters so i can't blame the windows entirely...

How's the condition of the carpet in the rear? Is it worn out?

how's the outside of your car? wash it then run a finger along the roof a week later..
we had a big problem a while back around here. There's an asphalt plant a couple blocks away, and they shot loads of dust into the air... we'd literally have to vacuum it out of our pool, and wash our cars, extremely regularly. enough that the city started complaining.

Well, it's original (1989) and a bit sun faded but not patchy or anything like that.

if you use products such as armor-all, it makes the surface extra clingy for dust to grab onto...

I've got a buddy that owns a detailing business, and he has told me if you want greasy and shiny, use armor-all... if you want "clean", just use a very mild detergent with some water.

Yeah, Armor-All sucks.

Vinylex works a little better, but you have to use just a tiny tiny bit.

Another thing that works well is to use an Absorber after you've dried the car.

Hmm, that's a very good point... I hadn't really considered that the products I use might make the surface more "sticky."

My 944 gets much more "dusty" inside than my other cars. Is there a cabin filter??? If so my car is missing it. If there is no cabin filter then my guess is that the blower sucks up all that dust and other good junk from under the hood and blows it right into the car. Add that to the air flow of dust and dirt that you are picking up stright on through the front end of the car at 55+ MPH. Almost like a vacuum cleaner driving down the road. And then it pretty much sucks it up with the blower and spits it right inside the car.

Tshabet!
Please have a look on this picture. Itīs from my 944 -84 NA. Itīs kind of fiber mesh from ventilation ducts and purchased from such a supplier. I have used it for a while and it works fine with me.

Hmm.
I should have said itīs seen far up in the picture in front of the air intake but donīt miss to look at other things as well. A clean engine room for example.

I cut up a vacuum cleaner bag & placed it between the wire mesh screen & blower housing, then snapped it in place.
It works fine & doesn't affect the air flow.

whats the condition of your rear hatch seal? Any gaps? On mine, the seal was totally trashed, which left some gaps and let dust and dirt in. I found out where it all was coming from driving down a dirt road one day and when I finally parked the car the rear carpet was just covered in dirt, and the only place it could have come in was the rear hatch

I have about a 1/4" gap in my rear seal, maybe some dirt can get in that way.

HA!

Where do you LIVE!!!!

No, I'm not looking for you, but when I moved from N. Georgia to Colorado I noticed a BIG difference in dust (everywhere, from the car to the house, etc.)

Try filtering, keeping windows up, etc. . but if you drive in a dusty environment it's inevitable
