924s no oil pressure on start up
I own a 1987 924s that in the past year had the top end rebuilt. Ever since i purchased the car there is no oil pressure on start up. I have tried 10w-40, 15-40 and i currently use castrol 20w-50. Temperature seems to have no effect, only time. If the car sits for less than an hour, the pressure will go back up immediately, but much more than that and it takes up to 30 seconds to get pressure. This led me to believe it was not having an anti-drainback valve on the oil filter, but i have tried all different types of filters to include the original equipment, nothing works. Any suggestions would be appreciated if i can't figure it out i will be forced to by a pre-oiler and i am not looking forward to that.

Are you sure it's 30 seconds? That's a hell of a long time.
They will always take a couple seconds to get up to pressure but 30 is terribly excessive.

Perhaps the drain-back valve in the head was left off or is not working. What are your pressure readings once you do get things circulating?

Sounds like your OPRV has some crud on it or is sticking. Mine did the same and I found what looked like tiny pieces of rubber at the base of the housing. I cleaned the housing with carb cleaner, compressed air, and installed new OPRV O-rings on the 1-piece valve and it's been fine since. Mine was fine after about 10 seconds, 30 is really long though.

Remove the oil filter and pour oil into the center bore of the oil boss, replace the filter and hand crank the engine a rev or 2 then start it up and see what happens. If this fails I would be concerned about the oil pick up tube in the oil pan. Make certain the crank gear is fully against the oil pump drive gear...I doubt this is the issue but could be the 2 are not fully compressed and the drive gear is slipping.
Check for a faulty oil pressure sender. Dal

2Tight has a good suggestion. To clairify, there are 2 O-rings on the OPRV. Same size, usually green color. The inside O-ring requires pulling apart the OPRV with hex head in vice. Good luck.

Is the idiot light staying on? Are you putting an external gauge on the oiling circuit? Are you sure it isn't just the dash gauge that is sticking? That was the case on my '88 944... Had to tap the gauge for it to come up.
