Puzzling electrical problem
My radiator fans would not turn on.I replaced temp switch, tested motors, replaced relay (it was bad)and checked the fuses. Still the fans would not come on. Then, just for the heck of it, I turned on the air conditioner (after warming up the engine) and the drivers side fan came on with the air conditioner.. Can you put a relay in wrong? Help!!
Any ideas? |
This sounds normal to me.
On my car, the second fan comes on whenever the A/C is turned on (regardless of engine temp). The other fan only comes on when the water reaches a certain temp (which is close to the top white mark (on my 1988). Also, my single fan comes on almost every time I shut off the engine for about 2-5 minutes - even if it wasn't on when the car was running. Vern |
Vern is correct. Mine work that way too.

I agree with you both. That is the way they "should" work. However, they only run if you turn on the air condionin` Also, the fan cycles back to SLOW when you turn off the Air Conditioner when the engine is hot! That isnt supposed to happen on the air condition circuit.

Sounds a lot like the fan relay.
Have you done the test procedure here yet? http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/cool-01.htm |
I've tested my own way but I see I missed some things.
Thanks for finding that for me. My link to clarks was bad, I will do the testing and report back,, |
