'88 924 S LeMans special edition...how to tell?
I’ve always thought this car would be a fun one to have, but have never actually seen one. In Morgan’s book he states that there were 500 (of a total run of 980) sold in the US. They were all black ones. The pictures in the book show them with a distinctive (maybe a little cheesy too) side graphic consisting of a turquoise stripe with “Le Mans” in script in the middle. They were all supposed to have had flannel pinstripe sport seats in a grey and turquoise and turquoise piping. The phone dials also had turquoise accents. Engines were stock 160-hp NA’s, but they had what amounted to an M030 suspension package: hubs, springs, shocks, sway bars, etc. and lowered a bit.
I have run across two cars advertised for sale as the ’88 924S “SE”, but both were just plain black. I think one of them had the original colored sport seats. Morgan says the option code for this package in the US was M756, so I guess that would one way of identifying one, assuming the sticker or other paperwork was around. Has anyone ever seen one as originally sold? If anyone ever hears of one for sale, I’d like to hear about it.

Mein Gott!

I've seen one a ways back, along with several old Martini 924s. I have Morgan's book and know the exact pics you're speaking about. Yep - thats pretty much what they look like in the flesh. The one I saw had turquoise accents in the phonedial rims as well. Between this and that very 1980's "LeMans" script on the side, it actually looked kinda cheesy. Not my cup of tea but interesting nonetheless..
Its possible there are some out there that were repainted or had the script removed, so don't rule that out. People do downright funny things with their cars especially after they've changed hands several times over the years. Ask me about my TR6....
