Noisy brakes

I've had my '84 for just over 2 years now, and the rotors and pads were replaced not long before, according to the records. I've only done about 16000 kms/10000miles in her. Ever since I've had it I have a very noisy binding sound from the rears when reversing, and unless I break hard, I get a loud squealing, mostly the front when pulling up slowly and especially when she's cold. Is this normal, or do I perhaps need to remove the pads and put some of that pad goop, forget what its called, on the rear of the pads? I have looked at the pads, and they still look like new. While I drive like we should drive our gems, I rarely brake very hard, using the gears like they should be. Anyone had this problem and fixed it?

I had the same issue on the front of my car, R&Ring the calipers, cleaning and lubing the sliders, and a thin coat of anti-seize on the back of the pads ("pad goop" would probably work better) fixed it.

can't comment on your sound when backing up; that doesn't sound right. Is your e-brake adjusted too tight?

Good thought, the e-brake, but I can push her around the workshop ok when I'm too lazy to jump in and start her. But I guess that could be binding just a little. Thanks.

My rear pads were squealing really bad a couple months back. It was a horrible, loud, glass-shattering squeal that wouldn't go away. The pads had like 80% life left on them, so I knew it wasn't the wear pads. I never did figure out exactly why the pads were making that noise. I just got new pads, resurfaced the rear rotors (they were also newish) and laid on a lot of anti-squeal stuff. They're good now.

Before I changed the rear brakes, I thought it might have been my e-brake, but it wasn't. I changed the shoes and that didn't help. Hope you sort it out, but it sounds like we had the same problem, just different axles.
