2 questions in one about na cars
Ok I have a 951 1986 , I was thinking to buy my good friend 944na 1987 his car is in great shape is basic stock, and under 85k miles, one owner, I planning to used the car as day driver, asking price is $4k , any way I guess I will gonna take the deal , ones I get the car I will like to do some mods in car , but there are couple things I want to find out if real will make difference!!car will have cam from web cams and upgrade chip in , then in my mind are two major mods and are these
-first question car is 20 years old, and has the factory catalytic converter in, so at this moment should be old plug , anyway I will like to replace it with brand new high flow one!! so a new cat will make real difference???? , and what type is the best choice brand and type? -second question I have done alot mod to my 951 with lindseyracing, so I was thinking to send the head to machine and port with them, cost is 600.00 and they have 3 levels, I know in 951 real helps alot , but what will be the REAL gain in power and tq in a na car with these type of head job??? that are my 2 main question any help !

If you insist, then an FR Wilk chip, hi-flow cat and one of the round throttle linkages will help, and they're easy and relatively cheap bolt-ons. If you're serious about wanting it faster regardless, then do the head. I can't see it being worth huge amounts, but it'll all add up. You should probably try to find some Bursch headers for it too? To complete the package, you might want to consider going to euro C/R spec. I doubt if all of the above together would make more than 30 HP or so over stock, it's not like the factory left (m)any easy horses on the table... I owned a US '86 N/A for more than 3 years before I bought the 911. When I spun #6 rod bearing, I borrowed a Euro '86 N/A for the duration of the rebuild (which was very freaky, as almost everything inside the Euro cockpit was mirror-imaged). The point being that although the Euro 944 was pretty tired, it felt like it made much better mid-range power compared to the US car, no mid-range flat spot at all. And both the US and Euro cars felt like slugs when wringing them out through the gears after a forced-induction car. Fuel maps and compression are the only differences US vs. Euro, I think. You can address the fuel map with the F R Wilk chip. Actually, the last time I was at the place i borrowed the 944 from, they were just sorting out the pulley spacing for a Mini Cooper supercharger they'd fabbed up a bracket for and bolted onto another N/A 944... Sounded quite impressive blipping the throttle... Good luck.
