Angry Engine cutting out

My car has been doing some unpleasant things today. It took two tries to get it started. Soon afterwards the engine cut out on me while I was idling in the parking lot. No warning, no big fuss about it, it just died. Started right back up.
Later at a stoplight the engine cut back out again. Started right back up, though after I started moving again there was a half second when my engine lost all power, but didn't die.

On my way home I was cruising in 3rd gear at about 2.5k-3k rpms when my engine lost power again but didn't die. Once I got home I popped the hood but didn't notice anything amiss, no oil leaks, no fuel leaks, nothing.

I just had some extensive work done on the engine a few weeks ago. Changed all the gaskets, valve job, spark plugs changed, timing and balance belts, water pump replaced, and the air intake boot replaced.

Do any of ya'll have some thoughts?

Could be a fuel pump.

Thats how mine acted just prior to the fuel pump completely dying.

Thats about what I figured. Clark's says a clogged filer or a failing fuel pressure regulator can cause the pump to die.

Fuel pump electrical

Hi, could also be intermittent voltage or supply problem to the pump.

On my 944, some time ago, the fuel pump supply cable fell out of the wheel arch onto the rear axle shaft and slowly wore through, which over the previous couple of months has behaved intermittently almost exactly like yours.

Eventually the two strands of cable left couldn't supply enough current to the pump and they vapourised, so the car stopped a few hundred yards later. Inconvenient tow, but easy fix.

cheers
Russell

That's how my car acted when the DME relay die. Driving along and the car cut out for a second.

Check to make sure the speed/reference sensors are plugged in properly. These may have been disconnected during the service you described.
