I thought my car was burning up

Sitting at a stop light today I noticed the unmistakable smell of burning plastic, I looked at the temp guage and everything was fine, No smoke coming from the hood and the car was running perfectly fine, I quickly scanned the area and thought the source of the smell was the ratty van next to me. I kind of dismissed it but at the next light I noticed smoke coming out the hood and wheel well area on the passenger side. I floored it from the light and quickly got into a parking lot nearby. Poping the hood I could see smoke coming from around the headers and what looked like a speaker. At this point I was relived as my initial thoughs were of Jeff Brewers recent car fire. The frigging speaker from the horn for the car alarm actual fell out and was lodged between the header. After removing what was left of the horn I enjoyed the buring plastic smell for most of the drive home. I hate car alarms in general and always had plans to remove the nasty electrical nightmare, I guess now I have reason.

I guess those weltmiester springs have stiffened things up to the point that things are falling off the car now

Whats left of the horn

A little wire and some electrical tape, and it should be good as new...

...EXCUSE ME, I thought I was on the MG bulletin board!

LOL. Good place for it. I'll have to try that. Stupid car alarms...and that dumb horn gets in the way durring repairs, anyway. Good thing it wasn't a real fire. I'd hate to see an S go up in flames.
