Bottom End Rebuild

SmileWavy
I'm going to start rebuilding my bottom end in my 87 944.

Long story short... I got rod knock at start-up a couple months ago and parked it since.

I'm gonna need a set of crank bearings AND rod bearings, correct?

After this its for sale.

Any suggestions? Pointers? Tips?

If you had knock you're probably already too late and the crank's scored. Gotta pull the motor.

I'll probably tear it apart this weekend and send the crank out to be polished and measured. Once I get the results I'll order bearings.

I've only had the thing for 9 months.

Make sure your machine shop knows what it's doing. There are only two bearing sizes - standard and 1st oversize. It may be a good idea to get a good used crank from someone on the board, but I don't know how much machining yours would cost.

BTW, given your description your car looks pretty good. I like the grey/burgundy combo.

Good luck!

I loved the Gray Burgandy combo. I knew I had to have it once I saw it. Everything seemed good and well taken care of. I guess somewhere along the line someone might have ran it low on oil for a while and then it got to me and I had to deal with the conciquences.

just a second thought that i'm cross posting from rennlist...

anyone wanna take this off my hands for a fair price?

Sorry to hear it's rebuild time. I'd have the whole engine blasted clean as metal shavings go and hide everywhere. You'll most likely go .25 mm undersized (one size) for Rod Bearing while Main bearings will probably replace at standard size.
