fuel pump check valve

Recently installed new fuel pump. pump came with a check valve but it didnt seem to fit anywhere. Was I supposed to install this or was it an extra part for mabye a different thread? I feel stupid!! If it is supposed to be installed, where?

Hi, check valve is supposed to screw into the top of fuel pump and then you put the hose with fitting on that goes to the fuel filter. Without a check valve you will not hold pressure in the line once the motor is turned off.
