Temporary Squeeling Brake Problem
I'm going to dig into this over the weekend but I thought I'd check to see if anyone else has encountered this before.
I put in new brakes in July (New drilled rotors, pads, lines, flushed the system, etc - all four corners). Recently, there was an accident on the freeway, right in front of me, and I had to hit the brakes hard. After that, a few miles later, my brakes started squealing. I drove home with a loud squeal. The following day, the brakes continued squealing until I had to back up out of a parking slot and it stopped squealing instantly. It's been fine for a month but it did it again yesterday - fortunately, I've discovered that backing up will cure it. Could this be something lodging itself in one of the drilled holes in the rotor? I've done brakes many times in the past and I'm sure I did this job correctly but this occasional squealing is bugging me. Any advice would be appreciated............................Vern:p |
Did you use any anti-squeal gel on the back of the pads? If you didn't, I would recommend it. The pads probably shifted a little when you got on the binders and started squealing, when you backed-up and applied the brakes they moved again and the squealing stopped.

I didn't use any of that anti-squeek gel because the pads came with anti-squeel pads on them. I used PBR Metal Master pads and to tell you the truth, I don't like them. The brakes definately stop when you step on it but if you didn't know the car, you'd think it needs new brakes - the don't grab without effort. I'm thinking I may replace with somethin else - not sure what just yet but this may be a good time.

I use the anti-squeal gel on the guide pins and other metal to metal contact surfaces. I too installed PBR Metal Masters about the same time you did but I used the gel on the backs of the pads anyway. I haven't really had to get on them really hard but I have been satisfied with them thus far. They are low dust and so far (knock on wood) they don't squeal. The other pads that were on the car when I bought it squealed pretty bad. Sorry to hear about you brake troubles.
