944 S2 niggles
Hi just signed up as i have just purchased an 89 S2 ,which has a couple of faults
1- The heater {it doesnt have aircon} when u are driveing along it runs hot then cold for a bit then hot again{doing that all the time}is this what they mean by "AUTOMATIC TEMP CONTROL" is this how its supposed to work? 2-The additional headlights dont work the ones either side of the number plate {bearing in mind its an S2} are they supposed to come on when the popup lights are up?all the other lights are working .Were they only connected depending on the market the car was destined for ,im in the UK 3- The right mirror on works one way have they got 2 motors in them? Thanks in advance for any help/advice Mark |

congrats, and welcome. #1 idk, #2 the "additional headlights" are foglights, they work by a toggle switch to the left of the light switch and will come on when the parking lights or driving lights are on and you flip that toggle switch. #3 is probably the switch on the door. what year S2 did you get?

Thanks got the mirror working it was the connector in the mirror
Also aditional headlights are actually working they come on when u select hi beam or flash .This is how i thought they would work, bearing in mind i am in the UK ,im sure American cars will have the lights wired differntly. When u say toggle switch do u mean steering colum stalk ? thanks again Mark |

no, just to the left of the headlight switch is a rotary interior light dimmer switch and to the left of that is a switch like the window switches that operates the foglights on our american models. the fogs are the lights just below the turn signals (see pic) are yours different?

Sounds like you need a system flush and new antifreeze put in. Or maybe you have a thermostat going bad.

The fogs and driving lights are different for the Euro cars - inner ones are usually driving lights, outers are fogs. Fogs have a switch next to the actual light switch. IIRC, the driving lights come on with the high beams.
Generally cars in the US have just fogs, not the driving lights as well - we don't even have the wiring provisions for the driving lights.

Yeh thats right outer are fogs come on with a seperate switch inner are driveing lights ,but only come on when u select hibeam
As for thermostat there is a bill for a replacment one,but i wouldnt of thought that a dodgy thermostat will effect the heater ,it would just make the car overheat .Besides the heater runnig hot and cold anyway Its as if the flaps in the heater open up once the interior temp is up to that selected on the dial ,but dont close until the temp in the car is to cold .Inother words the temp from when the flaps open to when they close again is to much Do u know if the water valve is used to control the temp as well? or is it just done via the flaps ?when the dial is switched over to the RED mark the heat stays on permenantly ,bypassing the automatic temp control ,i take it thats normal{water valve open flaps closed max heat} I think all the knobs and dials actually work as u can hear something happening when u operate them thanks again Mark |
