Removing all a/c components
 

The a/c compressor on my 87 n/a is broken, one of the tabs is broken off, i dont use the a/c anyway, and the hoods off anyway, so im going to reomve all a/c components.

First and most importantly, does this pose any problems to anythign whatsoever, thanks josh

You need to get an A/C delete bracket to put back in...

I have heard of a way that you just use a short belt and don't relocate the Alt. I am just unsure of the method of tensioning.

I'm curious if there's a way to do that as well, since I'd rather keep my alternator up high and out of the water when it rains.

The only way to adjust the accessory belt tension is a turnbuckle attached to the A/C compressor. If you remove the A/C compressor, you have to relocate the alternator with an A/C delete kit so you can adjust the belt tension. On cars with A/C, the alternator is hard bolted to the block and has no means of adjusting accessory belt tension.

I did this over a year ago. I'm glad I did. The alternator is much cooler (instead of snug up against the turbo). I also get better airflow through the radiator without the condenser.

Yes, even if you can't or don't want to delete the compressor, ditch the condenser for sure. It makes a big difference...(as long as you stay on the road :o )
My condenser sacrificed itself to leave my radiator remarkably unharmed after I ran it off the road and up onto a rocky slope...knocked the rad clean out of it's mounts, potatochiped the condensor, knocked the power steering belt out of whack, broke the rad fan housing, totally clobbered the front valence, and blew a tire. It was pure stupidity on my part, cranking around a hard left in low second WOT, understeered into some gravel on the side of the road...and snap! That was months ago, though, but I'm all the wiser now...and incredibly lucky that my car doesn't look like anyone did something stupid with it.

Who all sells the AC delete bracket?

There is a Porsche-made one. Pelican will have it.

There are also several aftermarket brackets. I have the one from Lindsey Racing.
