Queen of the Fleet Down

Just recently I was driving my Son's gorgeous 87 924s on the highway and as I attempted to pass someone on the right, at speeds much higher than the speed limit, the car died on me. So there I was with the engine completely dead forced over to the median. After much intensive labor my son and I took the relay out, tested it according to another post we found and it seems to be working. After that we tested the fuel pump and it worked with a voltage source. So we are stumped and any input would be gladly appreciated. Please let us get the real Porsche of the fleet back onto the road.

P.S. It isnt out of fuel, we checked.

Need more info.. did the car just die immediately or did it sputter? Do you have spark, fuel pressure?

Ok my smart a** son is home from college and wondering why his POS 924S was parked and not firing. He used my Pelican account to solict help.
The car did die when I was driving it on the freeway is a major way and does not start now.
I replaced the fuel pump with a spare we had after checking the DME relay functionality. No change. We did not jump the relay but the relay does check out based on the test procedures found on Clark website.
The fuel pump does not work when the key is at ACC or with the starter cranking. Fuses are good.
No measureable juice at the injectors. I am thinking ignition switch next. Not sure how to check that easily. Thoughts?

Hi, if fuel pump isn't working when you crank engine get a volt meter and crank the motor and see if you are getting 12 volts to the pump and if so then your pump is toast. The fuel pump is located at passenger rear wheel area. If you have to replace your fuel pump I would repalce the fuel filter as well.

How old is the relay?

Jump the relay connections in the relay board and see if the pump runs.

Nine times out of ten the relay has failed.

Basics basics basics.

Do you have
1. Fuel?
2. Spark?
3. Does the tack bounce when you crank it?
4. Is the Dizzy spinning when you crank the motor?

Corroded and loose battery connections (little wires on the positive side main battery leads) were the culprit. The little wire runs the fuel pump apparently.
Arrrrrrgh. I must have gone over a bump to knock the little bugger wire loose but leaving main terminal was still connected (for cranking and everything else). Well we learned a lot about relays, jumping them and how to replace a 924S fuel pump. Thanks for all the help fellas. I really did want to keep my 924S DIY knowledge to a minimum being one of those 911 bigots in the worse way. YMMV
