Relay differences

I just pulled all the relays out of my old 88 S 16v and matched them up to my Relays from the 87 S 16v and they are different?!?!?! This is the same engine... is there any reason that this would be? Especially the Fuel relay.. it doesnt have the same pins on it. ..??
These are as well different from my S2 relay set...

When i replaced the Relays from the 87 S 16v, i got a 993(or close) part number..

Why would they be all different?

I don't have an answer, but try looking up the relays in the Pelican Parts catalog and see if any were superseded. Also, try looking them up on the PET and see if there were differences between the relays in '87 and '88.

I believe the fuel or DME relay with the 944 part number was superseded by a new unit with a 993 part number at some point. If you go buy a DME relay for your car from the dealer now, it will have a 993 part number.

i found that out when i got a new Relay..but the original ones from both cars are different. that is what is puzzling me.. the plugs are spaced out differently too.. any reason for this?

I just replaced my DME/Fuel Relay on my '88 and it had a 993 part number. The relay also looked different (I think it was shorter). I was concerned and called the dealer to be sure and I was told that the part have been superseeded with the 993 Relay. It worked.
