A-Pillar gauge pod

I know they sell a complete a pillar dual gauge pod for the 944, but has anyone found a gauge pod made for another car that will fit somewhat nice over the 944 a-pillar? Thanks

John

Hi John,

There are a number of different pods that you can get to fit a 944 A-pillar. However, none without modification. Before some of these places started offering the dual pods specifically for 944s, there was no other option though.

I ordered a single gauge pod for a late model Eclipse from Extreme Motorsports. The sides are two deep for the 944 A-pillar so you have to trim the side down gradually until you get the correct length. Then take a heat gun and heat the sides of the pod until they are pliable, as soon as you remove the heat press the pod against the A-pillar to get it to mold to the form of the A-pillar. Hold it there for about 30 seconds and it will retain the shape even though it hasn't completely cooled.

All of the aftermarket pods come in black so, if you don't have a black interior and you want it to match, you can get the pod dyed to match the interior. I didn't know this when I did my single gauge pod. However, when I bought my dual gauge pod, I took it to a local stereo shop that specializes in car audio and they dyed the pod burgundy to match the interior of my car perfectly.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Clark

Why don't you pick up one that is already made for your car...Why re-invent the wheel...

Because it is expensive! 72 bucks plus shipping seems to expensive to hold gauges! I found a universal autometer dual gauge pod for 25 dollars and i will just heat form it to fit my pillar, it will look decent. Id rather spend 200% less doing it this way!

gauge pods

I thought you were doing this because you only wanted a single gauge pod. If you can use a dual gauge pod try:

http://www.gaugepods.com/

The dual pod there is $49.99 plus shipping and is a very nice product. There are no pictures of the pod on the web site but, I can send you some pictures when I get home this weekend. And, this doesn't just fit over the existing A-pillar, it replaces it completely. So, you have plenty of open area behind the trim piece to route wires. With one you place over the existing A-pillar you have to drill holes in the A-pillar trim piece for routing wires/tubing.

Regards,
Clark

Does anyone have a pic of the gaugepods.com pod installed? I would like to see what one looks like since they do not have a pic on their site.

Gauge Pods

The gaugepods.com unit is identical in appearance to the one sold by 9xAuto. However, I talked to a few folks that had tried both and did not like the fit of the 9x unit but, did like the Gaugepods.com unit.

I'll be back home this evening and can take a picture of the Gaugepods units dyed and installed in the car with gauges.

Regards,
Clark

you have to dye it? My interior is black. I think they said it comes in shiny black plastic or for an extra 5 dollars, black cloth material or something.

In your case, since you have a black interior, you wouldn't necessarily have to dye it. But yes, it will have the shiny black finish. If you want the finish like your interior, it's probably worth the extra $5. I don't think it's cloth. I think it's just a matte finish paint/dye.

Clark

Here are the pictures of my A-pillar gauge pod. One shows the two gauges. The other show the fit at the top of the A-pillar. Hope this helps.

Clark

interesting side note from a recent tv news story - here in los angeles, in an effort to stop street racing, the police are randomly pulling over cars with pillar mounted tachs and guage pods and frequently nailing them for illegal components (nitrous, etc)
