Question about installing rear turbo valance - need a photo

I finally got my rear turbo valance painted at a body shop and I want to install it this weekend.

I have an '88 n/a so some of the bolt holes (around the muffler) are already there and the sounding padding in the rear wells has round holes where the side holes will have to be drilled.

However, when looking at my valance, there's a black rubber strip (see photo below) and I'm wondering - does this need to rest against anything besides the body of the car? It looks like the car should have an indentation for this but I'm probably wrong.

Would someone with a turbo or S2 take a photo of the rear valance looking straight down into the space so that I can see exactly how this is mounted. I really hate to start drilling holes into my car only to find out later that I did it wrong.

The black rubber strip almost looks like the top side is supposed to rest against something but it could also just be there to channel water away:

The rubber strip is exposed from the top. It does not rest on anything.

Measure, then measure, then measure again to get the holes right.

that raised bit is the part that comes into contact with the fender... the 'space' you speak of is just how it's supposed to be mounted...

I think this will be an easy install. Fortunately, my '88 has the holes under the car pre-drilled so I can bolt it on and mark the sides. The black rubber thru a curve as it almost looks like a gasket that should be against something but now I see it's just to channel the water.

I also found an article in "9 Magazine" a long time ago on the mounting and I have that printed (somewhere).

I can't wait - plus I got the turbo 16" phone dials to go with it. Nextime I'll just buy a turbo but this will have to do for now.

Got it installed...wasn't too difficult but measuring on the curves made me a tad nervous.
