August 25 & 26 timing belt gathering, lafayette Indiana
Ok all, I am in the process of planning a timing belt gathering for sometime in August at my garage here in Lafayette, Indiana. It can't be either the first or second weekend, as I will be on my honeymoon.
I will have my 9201 on hand for doing tensioning. I am also EPA certified for Automotive A/C systems, I currently have all the equipment to service and charge R-12 systems, and by then should have a machine to service R-134a. I won't charge for servicing the system, but do ask you pay for the refrigerant (R-12 $25.00/lb, R134a $8.00/lb) I have enough space to get 7-9 cars in my big shop so if it rains, we can still enjoy looking at each others rides, and work in a dry space If we get more people than that, I can fit another 2-5 cars in the side shops. Since there is plenty of space, if anyone coming needs help doing a cam tower gasket, front seals, water pump, axle swap, etc, we should have space to get it done!I believe a BBQ is in order for the event, so I will have a couple of grills fired up. If there are enough people coming, I can even throw a small hog in the roaster! There are 2 hotels within 1/2 mile of the shop, there is also tons of camping space on the garage property (if anyone is up for a nighttime camp fire/ drinking/ BSing session) I am located 60 miles North of Indianapolis, and about 100 miles South of Chicago, right off of I-65. If anyone is interested, please let me know! Any input is accepted ![]() -Nick

Sounds like a plan. How far are you from Louisville? My sister lives in IN just outside Louisville. It would make for a nice summer trip for me. I will be coming from Buffalo, NY. The A/C sounds like a great plan too!

WOW sounds like a cool gig. I hope you are able to pull tons of people. The more the better
Heck I may think about swinging down for the A/C service. I will see how my schedule goes. I can assist in tensioning as well as I have done belts quite a bit and have a P9201. Speedy

Icey, Lafayette is exactly 3 hours north of Louisville. I make that trip once a year for the beginning of the Derby festival.
Speed, the more the merry! I figure with how much most shops charge for A/C service these days, it is worth offering at a gathering! A buddy of mine here in town just had the system in his BMW worked on before he found out I could do it, and ended up paying close to $300.00! He found out when he got the bill that over the last 17 years, his system lost 1 ounce of R-12. So in the long run, he paid $300 for $25 worth of refrigerant! That's just not right... I took a spirited driver earlier this evening, and figure I will make a map for a small "road trip" around town on some of the more fun roads. Heck I might even see if I can get some friends from the local car club to hang out at some strategic corners and pass out cards for a "poker run" ![]() -Nick

I'll need a belt tensioning about that time. I'm in.
Lafayette is straight east of Bloomington/Normal--about 2.5 hours away. Speedy, you're welcome to make a stop in Bloomington if you decide to go.

Sigh, why couldn't you have done this a year or two ago when I actually lived in Lafayette? I'd love to have seen this operation done a few times. Sadly, I'm a little too far away to make it now...have fun, all.

Well guys, it looks like the gathering will be the weekend of August 25 & 26. Come for one day, come for both, it's up to y'all!
I was telling a photographer friend of mine about this gathering over a few beers, and she suggested getting a couple of her model friends out there to have some "grid girl" photos taken with people's cars if you so wish. This isn't a guarentee yet.... But I'll see if she can follow through Stay tuned and I will keep everyone up to date about the plans.-Nick

Sweet. sounds like fun, just a 1 1/2 hr drive for me. I'm a newbie when it comes to 944s. I will check with my events cordinator and make sure she doesn't have anything else planned for me.

I may join in on the fun since I missed the last meet. However I'll be a new daddy by then so I'll have to jubble baby duties somehow.

Chitown, it'd probably be quickest for you to take 57 to Route 9 or 74, but you are also welcome to meet-up in Bloomington if you are so inclined.

Okay, rather than continuing to extend individual invitations...
Anyone who wants to meet up in Bloomington Saturday morning is welcome.
