Where's the best place to find a new/rebuilt PS pump?

Hi guys!

I'm actually a 928 owner (so don't hate me!), but have a friend who just purchased a '92 968 and noticed right away that it had a power steering leak. After a professional inspection, it was determined that the power steering pump was indeed bad. The repair facility informed him that Porsche no longer sells the pumps. He has way to much money for his own good, so why he was calling Porsche in the first place for the part is simply beyond me. Anyway, he called me asking if I knew of anywhere he could find a new or rebuilt unit? I figured you guys would be the one's to ask. Thanks in advance for any help................

Todd

The owner of the car tracked one down used from a place called Auto Atlanta for $294 plus shipping. Good deal? And has anyone ever heard of these guys? Thanks again...........

I haven't had any experience with Auto Atlanta, but I have read about numerous people not having good experiences with them.

Did you try 944ecology or DCAuto?

No, it's not a good deal. Plus Auto Atlanta are not the easiest to deal with.

Never, ever, ever install a used waterpump. AFAIK, they're still available new from Porsche but expensive. I would buy one from Pelican and save some money. Aftermarket brand is LASO.

He's looking for a used power steering pump, not a waterpump. I would definitely agree NO used waterpumps though.

My bad. In that case, you can easily rebuild the existing pump for very little money with a reseal kit from http://www.rennbay.com. Not 100% sure it will work for a 968 pump, but it's worth asking them.

Anyone know if the reseal kit on rennbay will fit a 924S pump? I have a slow leak and don't want to replace a perfectly good part if I can rebuild it.

Thanks in advance.

Yes they will fit all PS pumps from 83 to 95. They are an easy slam dunk repair, much easier than rebuilding the PS rack or throttle body.

You said it. They get rave reviews regarding reliability, too.
