help finding out why PP cracked
This is the second time my PP cracked at the diaphragm. It cracked the same way about 3 fingers apart. KEP fixed it the first time and balanced it all up so not a balance issue. Here is a pic of the last time it broke which is pretty much how it broke now.

You sure are having issues with that KEP PP. I forget your earlier posts but were you using a stock 951, Cup, or 930 disc? Do the tips on the clutch fork look equally worn? Hopefully that blue area on the throwout bearing isn't from heat. This has to be frustrating for you.

Yea its frustrating b/c I know that I dont want to do a clutch job a 4th time if it happens again so I wanted to find the problem and rectify it. I was using a 930 disk then decided what the hell and got a 6puck clutch. It looks blue but thats just the way the light is reflecting off of it. Now I got a fidanza to put in too so hopefully this will be the last time for a while until I build my motor. I thought it may be my motor mounts since I broke a ps tensioner. My motor does not vibrate as rpms go up and im sure my balance shafts are correct

Was the clutch slipping or chattering excessively? I think the cracks usually are a result of overheating the pressure plate. How does the flywheel look, purple / blue-ish hue at all?
Is it possible you had the clutch slave cylinder release adjusted incorrectly? My 951 had this problem only when the car was fully warmed up. Not sure what was happening..maybe fluid expansion or slight expansion of the assembly was causing the clutch to slip when i got on the boost in all gears. When the engine was warming up, i could be on boost all day long (or atleast until it warmed up) and no slipping. You need about 1mm of free play between the pedal engaging the piston on the slave. Basically grab the pedal and lightly push on it..it should 'give' a little before you feel resistance. Edit - Another thought, any problems sliding the clutch on? Maybe it was cocked a little unevenly on the shaft? Thats a shot in the dark though.. |
no excessive chatter just a little when it was breaking in and in reverse. The clutch wasnt slipping the 6puck and KEP should be good for 700 or so ft-lbs of tq. It might be the slave but I know some people were saying overtravel of the diaphram, so maybe my slave was adjusted wrong and it overtravelled the diaphragm?

You definately don't want your pp to crack (lol)

I cant help you with why it cracked.. But I have a brand new Sachs pressure plate for a Turbo if you are looking for a new one.. $200 + shipping.

Third time's a charm! No offense of course, just stating the obvious. |
well I know of 5 or so 951 who put down more power than me with the same disk and PP and have no problems so its leading me to believe something is up with my car in particular. KEP were very helpful I talked to the guy there that does the repairs and he told me very rarely do they ever break, he repaired it free of charge both times.
