Boy am I glad I listened to you guys !

I have been helping my 18 year old son restore his 84. We decided to pull the engine to go over it thoroughly and upon inspection after some disassembly we found the cogs worn down on one side of the balance shaft belt due to the idler bearing being frozen. The timing belt had cut itself into the rear belt cover and was cutting into the water pump like a hacksaw. The belt was fraying on the edge that was making contact. Also found a broken right motor mount and the clutch was just about done (original style). I can only imagine the how bad the damage that might have been incurred if we would have waited any longer to due an overhaul.

You dodged a bullet.

If you hadn't posted this, next week you would be posting: "Wanted- Good used 944 engine".

I remember doing a fellow Pelicans belts when his belts was 1/2 shreaded. We caught this bad boy just in time.

You should post a pic of the belt for us.
