Temp sensor Location and P/N 86
 

I think I am going to the right direction. My cooling problem, I have noticed that the fans have not been on and it runs a little rough, and pain to start sometimes when cold or hot. Looking at Clarks look like more than likely it will be the DME Temp sensor. I can not find my Hanes book, and I can not find the actual location of the part on the sites. Then I have looked on here for the part, and I see the 85 and Pre 944s then the 87 and after. So here are my questions:

1. Where exactly is the DME temp loacted?

2. What P/N should I order, the 85 or the 87? What O-Ring? Thanks Mike

On another note, the fans are temp controlled by a separate sensor switch located on the radiator below the coolant return line.

The DME temp sensor does not control the radiator fans at all. On a cold engine, the DME will run in open loop mode. As it warms up, the DME temp sensor sends its signal to the DME telling it to switch to closed loop.

Anyhow the sensor is located to the top right of this picture, blue connector.

As mentioned above, if your fans arent turning on you need to check the fan switch, then the fan relay.

Well I ordered the Fan temp sensor today, so hopefully I will get it early tuesday. I will change that and that should fix the fan issue. I am hoping my changing the DME Temp control sensor, will fix my ongoing problem of a rough idle at start, hard start at cold and warm. Hopefully that is the problem, all the trouble shooting I have done has come to have that temp sensor in there. Thanks Mike

I didn't post this idea in your other thread, so here it is. If it's getting hot and your fans aren't turning on, turn the a/c on, they should run at full speed then.

I've also found from experience that if the cooling system isn't bled correctly, the fans will not function properly. Since the switch is near the top of the rad and if there is too much air cycling, it won't heat the thermoswitch enough to click the fans on at the right time, or it will behave intemittently.
