A/C Compressor freezes?

Ok ,so this is really weird , the car is sitting in the garage and I can't drive it because of the snow. I'm starting the engine every couple of days and letting the car the car warm up. Today, the alternator belt started squealing and then I lost power and the car died. It looks like the ac compressor stopped turning and then the belt was slipping so bad that it wasn't turning the alternator and the car lost power. I'm fine replacing the ac compressor, but I never use the ac and the compressor is useless to me except as a pulley. Is there a belt that would just connect to the crank and the alternator or am I stuck replacing the compressor? Any ideas?
Thanks,
Steve

Just realized that the ac compressor is the only way to adjust the belt, so I guess I'm stuck buying another, anyone else have one of these things lock up on them?

I haven't had it happen to me, but I'm sure it has. There is an A/C delete bracket kit and belt that you can get. One of the 'list refugees may chime in and let you know who it is that sells them, I can not remember who has it. I want to say the guys name is Travis, and he runs some type of parts bay for the 944, it's not apart of ebay, but I wouldn't rule out something turning up there if you searched.

If you can go with out for awhile, I know I can have it rebuilt. Shouldn't cost much. Let me know.

Steve, I recently used an a/c delete bracket on my car and have the old compressor, you can have it for free(just pay shipping). The seals are shot but the pully turns free and the clutch is good. Let me know.

I guess I should have crawled under the car before posting cause it turns out that it was only a loose bolt holding the compressor. Thanks for your help, I may just get an A/C delete bracket anyhow since I don't need the air.

There is a belt that fits just the alternator and crank pulley - it's a Gates Micro-V K050330.

My kid used it on his 84 - I've used it on my 83. Works great.

The belt is an exact fit - so it's not easy to get on. The easiest way I found was to put it over the alternator pulley, then start it over the crank - levering it on with a screwdriver - then with a socket wrench, turn the crank pulley - and the belt goes right on. You take it off the same way.

I have an A/C compressor off my '89 S2. I use the car for track only.
It ran when removed a year ago. $ 50 + shipping if you want it.
