Sachs clutch release bearing question

I purchased a new clutch and pressure plate kit from an ebayer. How do I determined how many shims I should use to install in the pressure plate. There were no instructions and the plate I removed had one in place. Thanks for your help.

Count the shims in your old PP when you remove it. I think when I did my clutch on the 944 I used all the shims in the kit.

drball01,
Clarks Garage is the procedure I used. My original TO and PP had 2 spacers and a lot of spare room.

Per Clarks: Install a new release bearing on the pressure plate. You may need the snap ring from the old release bearing if the new bearing does not come with one. Install spacer(s) onto the release bearing. Insert the bearing into the opening on the pressure plate. While holding the bearing in place, lay the pressure plate on a flat surface with the pressure plate friction surface facing up. Press down on the sides of the pressure plate to compress the pressure plate fingers. This will allow enough clearance to install the snap ring onto the release bearing. The number of spacers installed should not prevent the snap ring from being installed. Also, once the bearing is installed and the snap ring is in place, there should be a small amount of movement between the release bearing and the pressure plate.

I checked several times with my new PP and TO and finally installed 3 spacers. Job finished in Oct '07 and no problems.

Have you read all of the information on the board for procedure?

My personal tips.
If you take off the flywheel and replace engine seal, Have everything balanced at machine shop. You do not want vibration.
Replace all needle bearings and guide tube. Get an alignment tool

and..since your forum name starts with "dr", Wear a Mask or you will choke on the fiber and dust falling on your face.

Good luck-Happy New Year 2008
