figuring out shim size for valve springs

hey guys, I had a chance to pick up a spare head for my 2.5L. Only problem with it is it's apart, so all shims are in the bag and so on, from my understanding there are different clearances for some valve springs.
Does anyone know how I can measure that clearances so i can insert right shims in the right places.

Thanks

machine shop is your best bet, or if you have a tool to measure installed spring height which a machine shop could order you. but first you must find the spec. also does the 8v 944 have hydraulic lifters because I know my S does.....but my 924 i could manually adjust valve lash with a turn of a screw....safe bet is to check with a machine shop first

The 944 does have hydraulic lifters. I'll have to look in the manual to see what the spring tension is suppose to be. Then you can set the shims to get the proper spring tension. Do you have a different number of shims than valves. I seem to remember mine had one per spring but it's been a while since I had it apart.

Thats odd, I didnt see any shims when I did mine, Its just a hydraulic puck that takes up the space. I changed over to 951 valve springs for the JME camshaft

Are you talking about the base washers under the springs that come in either 0.5mm or 1.0mm? I believe they are used for adjusting the finished spring heights. Are yours all 1 size? If not then you'll need to measure your spring heights again and match them as best as possible. New springs are the way to go if you can afford them. Dan I sent you a PM with the shop manual instructions. I don't think I'm allowed to post them even though I own the hard copy manuals.
