944 Cab
I am a former 944 owner who really needs a ragtop car - I am willing to trade off a little performance (extra weight) for a cab - I love the 44 but REALLY love reliability......
so my question for the cab owners - how much trouble ( and $$) has the cab been? Is the 968 top any different than the 44 top in operations, etc? Any help appreciated

I just got my cab last month after searching for over a year. I can't speak to the reliability of the top yet for myself but I can tell you that mine did have some work done in the past but it works fine now. Also, my search found that lots of cabs have been 'converted' to manual. I think this has been done when the electronics go south and its just easier (and MUCH less expensive) to avoid having it re-aligned.
I personally prefer the 944 because I think it looks better than the 968. Also, there are LOTS of 944 parts and cars (yes, only 2 years for the cab but 8+ for many of the other common parts) available to get parts from. Good luck in your search!

968s are definitely great cars, but what Peter says about not having many "recycled" parts is very true. IF you can find them, they will be at a premium price. 944 is a better choice for maintenance reasons but there are other reasons weighing in favor of the 968 like the hp. Personal choice.
