Price check
Tell me you think about this car I'm considering:
1986 Turbo 60,000 miles; All records from new; Recent clutch and timing belt; Non-LSD Phone dials Original water pump Leather interior Upgraded stereo No mods except for upgraded chip (original included) Excellent exterior and interior. Only flaws are tear in shifter boot, a couple of road pepper dings in front end and a loose power window switch. I will be getting a full PPI Does $10,000 sound like fair/excessive/a steal starting point? Thanks for your opinions, CB |

considering it's on it's original WP I think that's too high. That alone will set you back some if you have the shop do it and you will have to retension all the belts. Why didn't he have that replaced while it was in for the belts?
Fro the leather interior make sure it has the option for all leather. otherwise it's partial leather. See what the PPI comes back with, but I would at least plan on the cost of a new WP job. i've seen great condition turbo's with records and non-LSD go from $6k-$9k. Over $10k I would expect things like the tires to be pretty new too, not just low miles.

I would say that 9K-10K is a great price for what you are buying. I did a lot of research before I bought my '88 951 with 46K miles. .....pretty much the same condition as you are describing. I sent off to the PCA for their valuation, and they came back with 16K-19K. These low-mileage cars are getting harder to find and they are going to continue to up in value. Go for it and take very good care of the car while you have it....you won't regret it.

PCA valuation is great for insurance values, but that's it. Dont go by what they say for if the price of a car is right or not.
See what the PPI shows then go from there.

Sounds like a fair price, I would think 8-9 would be a great buy, 9-12 average. These cars are quickly finding 2 paths, good previous owners with lots of maintenance and poor/many previous owners that are selling cheaper cars with issues - you want the first scenario! PPI would be great idea, if they don't find any expensive leaks or issues go for it. Sometimes cars that sit have leaks worse than a daily driver. It sounds like it's had a good life, and if you could neg. out the water pump service which is overdue and other misc. PPI stuff, 10k is a good starting price. I agree with hpservertech that PCA values of 16k+ are not realistic, and I don't believe these cars will go up much in value (at least not as an investment) good luck!

Price is reasonable. I purchased a 1986 Turbo with an LSD for $10,000 in November. 78,xxx miles, all records from new (including window sticker) very good mechanical shape (new brakes and less than 5,000 miles on belts and new water pump), factory leather sport seats (it is leather throughout), almost new Bridgestone Potenza tires, minor mods (chips and boost enhancer) but it had some dash cracks and the paint was only good, but not super (i.e. I need to do some buffing in the spring)

I agree with white944cup. $10K might not be the 'right' price, but it's going to sell at or near 10K whether it is to this guy or another guy next week. To me, that's the realistic measure of 'right' price. It's a 22 year old car, there are few with that low miles left, and people buy them when they find them. Is it worth passing on this one to keep looking, potentially for many months? When you find the right car and it's in your budget, buy it, and don't look back.
