Front Panel Removal Question

I was wondering how many guys have taken the Front Quarter Panels and the Panel under the doors on the 86 and up 944? I have a little body damage on those panels and I was going to look at pulling the panels to do the work correctly. Have done some body work on other cars so got some know-how to do this. THe panel under the door looks like it will be a real fun project! Any Help, Thanks Mike

Dont know about under the door, but the front panels are screwed in and also have a heavy duty kind of glue on them. from what I have read about others doing it, it's a PIA. Think there were something around 11 screws holding it on, but I'm going from memory on that one.

The fenders are easy to take off. The portion under the door is welded on. So depending what damage is there exactly, your probably better off cutting out whatever is damaged and welding in good metal.

Wow, Looks like I was right about it being 11 screws. Can't believe that with my old age.

That picture is perfect for showing you where all the screws are.

Regarding the rocker panels under the doors - If you are dead set on replacing them:
1) Buy a new set of rocker panels so you can see where they are seamed into the car.
2) Go to your local auto body supply shop ( or ebay) and buy a spot weld cutter kit ($20 - $30). It is a 3/8" or so metal hole saw you can use on the end of a drill. Center punch each spot weld in the old rocker panel and cut the spot weld out. The panel will practically fall out. Grind off the spot weld from the car when the panel is removed.

Make sure you buy several extra cutting blades for the spot weld cutter. They break rather easily (at least they do for me).
