Backdate 944S rubberized belt/crank pulley to 8V metal one?

The front belt pulley on my 944S is having chunks of rubber came off of it. While it has not failed yet - it looks like it's on it's way. I have a steel pulley of of an '87 944 that I'd like to use. I realize I may lose a bit of smoothness as there is probably a harmonic balancing function, but since the crack/clutch/flywheel is not different in in an S from a 8V 944, the worst it should be is going back to 8V levels of N/V/H, right? New rubberized pulleys are around $500 new from Porsche

I can't see as you would even notice any difference.
